In Communist Poland, Surrealism Paints You!
This collage was created using various constructivist artwork and Orange Alternative illustrations. The base of the collage comes from a series of architectural miniatures created by Soviet artists, which was a good foundation for the collage since it portrayed abstract, fictional urban landscapes of Communist architecture. Digitized graffiti from the Orange Alternative along with photos of Major and his dwarves participating in happenings were layered into the landscape to further set the scene.
Multiplied with all of these elements is an illustration of Lenin in a dwarf hat vectorized from an Orange Alternative flier shown in Major’s autobiography. All are meant to echo the proposed mentality of the Communist government—the entire image is meant to evoke constructivist-style propaganda posters while visualizing the urban landscape of the socialist surrealist.
The overall image of the collage is meant to echo the voice of the Orange Alternative movement—one which sought to renvision the perception of Communist life. I have no genuine involvement in this world and can only describe or visualize this world from accurate resources.
