JRM’s Legendarium

Tolkien’s legendarium has been a significant source of entertainment and inspiration throughout my life, thanks to my father (JRM), who is a legendarium aficionado and avid historian of Tolkien’s written works and life. The work laid out below features a combination of Tolkien’s original artwork incorporated with additional elements, and reflects our personal endeavors to further envision and enjoy the legendarium.

Tolkien Quiz

Due to his considerable subject matter knowledge and career as a college professor, my father has created a comprehensive quiz of legendarium lore. It is probably the most thorough test of skills for any true fan.

This project is on going and the ultimate quiz document is forthcoming.

Map of Middle-Earth

Of course I wanted to create my own version of the map of Middle-earth. I knew I wanted to to use Tolkien’s original map and labels, but I wanted to create a more ornate version featuring a rich frame that further captured the essence of the legendarium. I chose a 19th-century ornamental design featuring 5-pointed flowers and updated the colors to match the yellow star-shaped elanor flower of the Lothlórien elves. Tolkien himself described elanor as a larger version of pimpernel with gold and silver flowers, so I researched vintage illustrations of pimpernel and extracted portions to include in the map document.
